Bacary Sagna wants Lampard to remain at the Etihad

Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna wants his teammates Frank Lampard to remain with the Premier League champions by extending his loan spell at the club.

Lampard, 36, whose current deal with the Citizens runs until December as the veteran midfielder is scheduled to join up with newly-formed MLS side New York City FC in January.

Due to Lampard’s excellent form this season – the Frenchman Sagna along with his teammates are urging for him to stay longer with the club in order to retain their title and progress in the Champions League.

The 31-year-old told reporters: “He’s a great guy and he’s fitted in perfectly. He showed here that he can score important goals, he’s a great player. He’s a quick-moving player. To play against these types is so difficult.

“All of them are top, world-class players. Frank was always very good. He’s shown many times he’s a great player. As long as we have him on board, it’s always good.”

Lampard has scored four goals in 11 games so far this season and helped the club to achieve the second spot in the league table with 36 points, three points behind leaders Chelsea.
