Barcelona to make approach for Saul Niguez

Barcelona have reportedly expressed an interest in making an audacious move for La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

The 24-year-old playmaker came close to joining Barca in 2017, only to pen a long-term contract with Atleti that runs through until 2026.

According to Spanish outlet AS, the La Liga champions are prepared to pay £96million to bring in the Spaniard, however, as they are keen to strengthen an extra dimension to their squad ahead of next season.

Manchester City are also said to be credited with an interest in the midfielder, whose release clause is set at £130m.

However, Barcelona’s offer may be enough to tempt Atleti into cashing in, making Saul the most expensive Spanish player in history.

Should Niguez make the move to Camp Nou, Ivan Rakitic may reportedly be moved on.
