Connor Wickham extends Sunderland deal

Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has signed a new four-year contract with the Premier League side, that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2019.

The 21-year-old, whose previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season and was being monitored by clubs like West Ham and Crystal Palace, but he ended the speculation regarding his future move by committing with the Black Cats for another four years.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet said: “I’m delighted that Connor has committed his future to us for the next few years. After his contribution at the end of last year, he has continued to improve his football and become an important part of our team.”

The England Under-21 international’s has played a vital role in the Black Cats, has scored two goals in 15 premier league games this season.

Wickham took twitter to express his feeling after signing a new deal at the Stadium of Light.

Wickham has scored 12 goals in 66 appearances in all competitions since he joined the Black Cats from Ipswich Town in 2011.
