Barcelona closing in on Thomas Partey: Free Transfer looms as talks intensify
Barcelona are wasting no time in the transfer market under new manager Hansi Flick — and their latest target is none other than Arsenal’s midfield powerhouse Thomas Partey.
According to Fichajes, the Catalan club have accelerated negotiations with the Ghanaian midfielder, who is set to become a free agent when his Arsenal contract expires in the coming days. With interest building across Europe and beyond, Barça are now leading the race to snap up the 32-year-old on a free transfer.

From North London to the Nou Camp?
Partey, who made his name at Atletico Madrid before joining the Gunners in 2020, has been a vital part of Mikel Arteta’s setup. Despite an injury-riddled 2023/24 campaign, the Ghana international showed his class whenever fit, racking up 52 appearances across all competitions and chipping in with seven goal contributions. His on-field chemistry with Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard provided a strong midfield spine at the Emirates.
However, Partey is ready for a new adventure. With his contract winding down and no renewal on the horizon, the midfielder has set his sights on returning to Spain — and Barcelona’s project under Flick has caught his attention.
A Smart Move from Barcelona
With financial limitations still looming large, Barça see Partey as a smart, cost-effective solution to bolster their midfield. Sporting director Deco is pushing hard to land the experienced campaigner, believing his leadership and physicality can elevate the team’s engine room.
Flick, too, is an admirer. The German coach is aiming to add more steel and tactical versatility in midfield, and Partey ticks all the boxes. Better yet, he comes without a transfer fee — making this potential deal all the more appealing for the financially strapped Spanish giants.
A formal offer is expected to be made soon. If all goes to plan, Partey could become Barcelona’s second signing of the summer after goalkeeper Joan García — and a major piece in Flick’s midfield puzzle.
