Jan Vertonghen set for contract extension at White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen is reportedly close to signing a new three-year contract worth around £50,000-a-week at White Hart Lane, according to the London Evening Standard.

The Belgium international, who joined Spurs from Ajax in 2012, has been sidelined since January after coming through a medial knee ligament injury.

In his previous seasons at the Premier League outfit, the 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the North London club after expressing his thoughts to play in Europe for Champions League football.

It is understood Tottenham have a strong chance of playing in UCL next season as Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently second in the league table, five points adrift of Premier League leaders Leicester City.

Tottenham have conceded 24 goals in 29 league games this season.
