Leeds United keen on Emiliano Buendia

Leeds United are exploring a summer move for Aston Villa playmaker Emiliano Buendia as Daniel Farke targets a new No.10 ahead of their Premier League return.

According to Graeme Bailey of TBR Football, the newly promoted side has begun discussions to sign Buendia, who appears to be surplus to requirements at Villa Park under Unai Emery. The Argentine midfielder could be available for transfer and is seen as a strong candidate to bolster Leeds’ attacking options.

Buendia was once considered a major coup when Aston Villa paid £33 million for him following a standout season with Norwich City. However, injuries and inconsistent form have prevented him from fulfilling that potential in Birmingham. He was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen in January but struggled to cement a regular starting spot, making just three league starts in eleven appearances.

Despite limited minutes, Buendia still impressed then-Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who praised his professionalism and impact in training. “He was always ready to play and brought a great attitude,” said Alonso.

With Leeds back in the top flight, Farke sees Buendia as an ideal addition — a creative presence familiar with the Championship and Premier League. While other options like Southampton’s Matheus Fernandes are on the radar, Buendia’s experience makes him a standout target.

The key factor now will be Aston Villa’s asking price, with two years left on Buendia’s contract. Leeds may need to dig deep to bring the 27-year-old to Elland Road.
