Liverpool and Chelsea Battle for Bournemouth Midfielder Alex Scott in £43m Race

Liverpool have reportedly joined Chelsea in the chase for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, according to TEAMtalk.

Why Liverpool Want Alex Scott

Curtis Jones left Anfield this summer without a midfield replacement arriving. Andoni Iraola currently leans on Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and youngster Trey Nyoni, with Wataru Endo offering fringe cover. Endo has drifted to the periphery in recent years, while Nyoni still needs time to develop. TEAMtalk claims Scott appeals partly because Iraola coached him at the Vitality Stadium.

Chelsea Still Keeping Tabs

Chelsea had a formal bid rejected by the Cherries in the summer but continue to watch the England international. Despite selling Enzo Fernandez on deadline day, they signed no midfielder and are expected to revisit that area. Scott’s ability to cover plenty of ground would suit their needs.

Bournemouth Plan New Contract

Scott’s deal runs until 2028, and Marco Rose’s side want to extend it. They are reportedly ready to include a release clause, having seen several offers turned down.

Scott’s Form and Valuation

The box-to-box midfielder has begun the season well after helping Bournemouth finish sixth last term and reach the Europa League. Thomas Tuchel rewarded him with an England call-up, while Transfermarkt values him at about £43m.

Our Take

Scott looks a smart fit for either club. He is young, athletic and Premier League-proven, which lowers the risk of a big-money move. Midfield depth is a genuine concern at Anfield, so planning early makes sense. Liverpool’s Iraola link could give them an edge, but Chelsea have already shown serious intent. The release clause might prove decisive, as it would hand Scott control of his future. January or next summer should reveal who wins out.
