Liverpool Eye £86m AS Roma Midfielder Manu Kone as January Transfer Target
Liverpool’s engine room is reportedly in line for an overhaul, with AS Roma’s Manu Kone emerging as a leading January option, according to TEAMtalk.

Why Liverpool Want a New Midfielder
The Reds maintained their perfect Champions League record with a 6-3 victory at LASK, the biggest winning margin of Andoni Iraola’s reign. However, conceding three to the Austrian side exposed how easily the midfield was bypassed, reigniting concerns over depth and quality.
Uncertainty surrounding Alexis Mac Allister’s long-term future only adds to the urgency.
Alex Scott Out of Reach, Kone Steps In
Liverpool had initially targeted Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, but Chelsea are said to be ahead in that race. Kone has since become a viable alternative following a strong start to the season in Rome, with the French international valued at around £86 million.
What Kone Offers
The 25-year-old is comfortable in tight spaces, sets the tempo well and uses his physicality to shrug off pressure. He also wins duels in the air and on the ground, closes space diligently and tackles accurately.
Chelsea previously monitored him too, but their focus on Scott could leave the door open for Liverpool.
Roma Unlikely to Sell Cheaply
Kone remains central to Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans as Roma challenge in Serie A, so losing him mid-season would be a major blow. In my opinion, £86m is steep, but few midfielders blend his ball-carrying and defensive work. Liverpool may need to be patient if they want a deal done in the winter window.
