Liverpool plot £65m move for Nico Williams

Liverpool are reportedly gearing up to make a blockbuster move for Athletic Club sensation Nico Williams, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Rising Star of San Mamés

Having risen through Athletic Bilbao’s famed youth ranks, Williams has developed into one of La Liga’s brightest young attackers. Despite battling fitness issues last season, the 23-year-old still managed an impressive 18 goal contributions, showcasing his flair, pace, and technical brilliance.

This season, despite another brief injury setback, he’s already contributed twice in just four La Liga outings — proving why he’s now a mainstay in Luis de la Fuente’s Spain national team, and a key figure in their Euro 2024 triumph.

Liverpool’s Interest Grows Stronger

Williams’ dazzling form hasn’t gone unnoticed. He’s long been admired by Europe’s elite, including Arsenal and Barcelona, but chose to stay loyal to his boyhood club by signing a contract extension until 2035. However, that hasn’t stopped speculation from intensifying once again.

Now, reports suggest Liverpool are preparing a formal offer in the region of £65 million — slightly below Williams’ £78 million release clause. The Reds are eager to strengthen their attacking options, particularly on the left wing, following Luis Díaz’s departure this summer.

Perfect Fit for Arne Slot’s System

While Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa have shared duties on the left, neither has fully convinced new boss Arne Slot. Williams’ explosive speed, direct dribbling, and versatility on both flanks could make him an ideal addition to Slot’s dynamic pressing system.

If Liverpool can pull off this ambitious deal, Nico Williams could become the next exciting talent to light up Anfield — and potentially the missing piece in their attacking puzzle as they chase silverware under Slot’s new era.
