Liverpool set to secure services of goalkeeper Victor Valdes

Liverpool are hopeful to announce the signing of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes within the next two weeks, according to The Express.

The Spaniard shot-stopper had been in rumours to join the Reds during the summer transfer window, but a deal never materialise. He has been without a club since he left FC Barcelona, meaning the 32-year-old is free to join any new club on a free transfer at any time.

The reports have also suggested that Valdes will undergo a medical with the Merseysiders during the international break before being announced as a new Reds’ goalkeeper.

The signing of Valdes will provide a stiff competition to current number one goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for first-team football at Anfield, who has been under scrutiny in recent weeks.
