Man United plot ambitious move for Federico Valverde
Manchester United are stepping up their midfield rebuild and have reportedly tabled a sensational bid to land Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde.
According to Defensa Central, the Red Devils have offered £43 million plus Kobbie Mainoo in exchange for the Uruguayan international. While the move highlights United’s ambition, it also underlines how highly they rate Valverde, who has become a cornerstone of Real Madrid’s success in recent seasons.

Valverde’s Value to Real Madrid
Valverde’s current valuation on Transfermarkt sits at £113 million, and Los Blancos are believed to demand well over £100 million before even considering a sale. As Real Madrid’s vice-captain and one of Xabi Alonso’s most trusted players, he has featured in almost every match this season, cementing his place as an untouchable figure at the Santiago Bernabeu.
With two Champions League titles already under his belt, Valverde embodies Madrid’s future plans. While the club won’t block a player’s exit if he pushes for it, the chances of United prising him away look slim without an astronomical bid.
Why the Swap Seems Unlikely
Kobbie Mainoo, one of United’s brightest young prospects, has also been on Madrid’s radar. But offering him in a deal for Valverde feels like a long shot. Madrid may admire Mainoo, but sacrificing their vice-captain for the 19-year-old Englishman is highly improbable.
United’s Alternative Targets
Should a Valverde deal prove impossible, United are also monitoring Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson, both seen as long-term midfield options. New boss Ruben Amorim will be eager to secure the right fit for his system in 2026, with plenty of eyes on how United strengthen their midfield core.
For now, the Valverde dream looks far-fetched, but United’s intent in the transfer market is clear—they want a statement signing to elevate their midfield to the next level.
