Manchester United join race for Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume

Manchester United are preparing to reignite their search for a defensive midfielder this January, with Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume firmly on their radar. According to Africa Foot, the Red Devils have expressed serious interest in the 23-year-old, though they will face stiff competition from Premier League rivals.

United’s need for a holding midfielder is no secret. Despite prioritising the role in the summer, the club failed to land Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, as the Seagulls refused to negotiate. With Baleba now off the table, United are turning their attention to other options — and Agoume has emerged as a standout candidate.

Sevilla Set Price Tag

Agoume, who has impressed in La Liga with his physicality and ball-winning presence, is contracted with Sevilla until 2028. The Spanish side are demanding around €30 million to part ways with him in January. While that price could deter some clubs, United’s midfield woes may push them to meet Sevilla’s valuation.

The Red Devils reportedly considered Agoume in the summer but never followed up with a formal bid. With the winter window approaching, that stance could change, as Erik ten Hag looks to add steel and stability to his midfield.

Competition for Agoume Heats Up

United won’t have a clear run at the Frenchman. Arsenal were linked with Agoume in the summer before opting for Brentford’s Christian Norgaard, while Brighton are also keeping tabs — potentially viewing him as Baleba’s long-term successor.

For United, however, Agoume represents both a practical and strategic signing. At just 23, he offers long-term value while immediately strengthening a vulnerable midfield. If the Red Devils push ahead, January could see a fierce battle for Sevilla’s midfield powerhouse.
