Tottenham eye late move for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a surprise late swoop for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers after holding early discussions over a potential deal, according to Football Insider.

The 23-year-old only joined Villa from Middlesbrough last year but wasted no time making his mark. In just half a season, he played a pivotal role in Unai Emery’s side securing Champions League football, finishing the campaign with an impressive 14 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

This season, however, both Rogers and Villa have struggled to find rhythm, with the midfielder yet to register a goal contribution and Emery’s team still chasing their first league win.

Spurs step up after Maddison blow

With James Maddison sidelined by an ACL injury, Tottenham are in urgent need of a creative spark in midfield. Rogers has emerged as a leading target, with Spurs reportedly preparing what has been described as a “sensational” late push to lure him away from Villa Park.

Villa, though, are digging their heels in. The Midlands club have slapped a £100m price tag on their playmaker, whose contract runs until 2030. Spurs are unwilling to meet that valuation and will attempt to negotiate a lower fee, hoping Villa’s financial concerns under PSR rules could open the door.

Why Rogers fits the bill

Tottenham have scoured the market for attacking midfield options all summer, monitoring the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White, Eberechi Eze, and Nico Paz. Gibbs-White stayed at Nottingham Forest, Arsenal pounced for Eze, and Paz looks set for a return to Real Madrid.

That leaves Rogers as one of the standout options still available. Naturally an attacking midfielder but equally effective out wide, he combines creativity with a goal threat and still has plenty of room to grow. At just 23, he offers Spurs both immediate impact and long-term potential.

If Tottenham can strike a deal, Rogers could be the statement signing Ange Postecoglou’s side need to keep their season on track.
