Spurs Reignite Interest After 2025 Collapse

Tottenham are reportedly plotting a fresh attempt to sign Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White in the January transfer window, according to Football Insider.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side famously tried to land the England international during the 2025 summer window by attempting to trigger what they believed was a £60m release clause, only for the move to collapse amid an acrimonious dispute with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. Gibbs-White subsequently signed a new three-year deal at the City Ground and went on to score 15 goals in 37 league appearances last season.

Despite that bitter fallout, sources have told Football Insider that Spurs’ admiration for the 26-year-old has never wavered, and De Zerbi could return with a renewed offer once the winter window opens.

Why Spurs Need Reinforcements

The timing makes sense. Tottenham have endured a torrid start to the new campaign, sitting in the relegation zone with just two draws and three defeats from their opening five Premier League fixtures, despite splashing out more than £300m over the summer. Creativity in midfield has been sorely lacking, and Gibbs-White’s versatility across advanced roles is exactly the profile De Zerbi craves.

Forest, however, are unlikely to make this easy. Having already lost Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for a reported £116m, Nottingham are said to be holding out for a fee closer to £125m this time, a considerable jump from the original £60m valuation.

Personally, I’d argue Spurs are right to circle back. Gibbs-White has continued to flourish under Oliver Glasner, contributing a goal and two assists already this term, and few Premier League midfielders offer his blend of energy and end product. The real question isn’t whether he’d improve Tottenham, but whether the club can stomach paying double what they nearly did eighteen months ago.
