AC Milan lining up move for €7m move for Joe Gomez

AC Milan are ready to reignite their pursuit of Liverpool defender Joe Gomez with a €7 million bid lined up for the winter transfer window, according to reports from Italy.

Milan’s Long-Standing Interest

The Rossoneri were actively hunting for a central defender over the summer, with Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji and Liverpool’s Gomez both on their radar. While a deal for Akanji collapsed due to his hefty wage demands, Milan pushed hard for Gomez but failed to get Liverpool’s approval before the deadline.

Instead, they secured David Odogu from Wolfsburg, but the 21-year-old offers a very different profile. With Milan still lacking depth and experience at the back, Gomez remains firmly at the top of their wishlist heading into January.

Gomez’s Liverpool Situation

Gomez, 28, has been part of the Liverpool setup since 2015, making over 170 appearances for the club. Though versatile across the backline, he has struggled to cement a permanent starting role and has slipped down the pecking order under new boss Arne Slot.

While the Englishman’s contract runs until 2027, Liverpool were open to letting him leave this past summer before pulling the plug on a late move. Now, with the defender eager for more playing time, a January exit could be back on the cards.

Dependent on Liverpool’s Business

Milan’s chances could hinge on Liverpool’s own transfer plans. A serious injury to youngster Giovanni Leoni has stretched their defensive options, but if the Reds finally secure long-term target Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in January, Gomez’s departure becomes far more likely.

With sporting director Igli Tare already in contact with Liverpool, Milan are expected to push hard to bring Gomez to San Siro. At just €7 million, it could be a shrewd deal for all parties—Liverpool cashing in on a squad player, Gomez reviving his career, and Milan strengthening their defensive core.
