Arsenal Eye Move for Dortmund Forward Maximilian Beier as Havertz-Style Alternative

Arsenal have been credited with interest in Borussia Dortmund forward Maximilian Beier as Mikel Arteta’s side continue searching for attacking reinforcements, according to TEAMtalk.

The 23-year-old has quickly established himself as one of Germany’s most promising forwards. Beier began his career at lower-league sides Brandenburger SC Süd and Energie Cottbus before joining Hoffenheim’s academy at 15, working his way up through every youth level.

He made his Bundesliga bow in February 2020 in a defeat to Freiburg, going on to rack up 46 senior appearances and 18 goals for Hoffenheim. A productive loan spell at Hannover, where he netted 15 times, preceded Dortmund making his move permanent in summer 2024.

Beier has thrived at Signal Iduna Park, contributing ten goals and six assists in his first campaign before improving to ten goals and ten assists last term. Now valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt, he has continued that output this season under Nico Kovac, chipping in four goal involvements as Dortmund have made unbeaten starts in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Beier tipped as Havertz-style option for Arteta

Arsenal’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez collapsed in the summer when the Atletico Madrid striker opted for Barcelona instead, pushing the Gunners to widen their search. TEAMtalk claims Beier’s performances over the past year have caught the eye of Arsenal’s scouts, who see similarities with countryman Kai Havertz in his all-round attacking style. Manchester United and Tottenham are also said to be monitoring him, though.

Arsenal’s frailties in front of goal were laid bare in their 3-0 defeat at Brighton, a result that exposed just how reliant they’ve become on moments of individual quality rather than a genuine goal threat. A player of Beier’s profile — mobile, versatile, and capable of playing across the front line — feels exactly like the sort of addition that could give Arteta a genuine plan B.
