Arsenal Prepare January Bid for Julian Alvarez as Gyokeres Struggles for Goals
Arsenal Revive Interest in Alvarez
Arsenal are reportedly set to renew their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez when the January window opens, according to TEAMtalk.

Why Arsenal Need a New Forward
The Gunners ended the summer with Christos Tzolis as their only attacking signing. They missed out on Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea, and Vinicius Jr, who committed his future to Real Madrid. Their goal output is reportedly the weakest among the top four, while Viktor Gyokeres is still waiting for his first goal of the season. Kai Havertz has since filled the central role for Mikel Arteta.
Alvarez’s Situation at Atletico
The 26-year-old Argentina international is said to be unhappy in Madrid, despite remaining professional. That has encouraged belief in north London that he could be tempted by a move. Arsenal were reportedly prepared to bid more than £100m in the summer, with Gyokeres, Ethan Nwaneri and Noni Madueke mentioned in discussions. Transfermarkt values Alvarez at £93m.
Competition for His Signature
Barcelona have reportedly widened their search, with Erling Haaland among their other targets, which leaves Arsenal as the preferred option. However, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring the situation, so speed could be crucial.
Our Opinion
Alvarez offers pressing, link-up play and goals, which is the blend Arsenal’s attack currently lacks. Including Gyokeres in any package feels awkward, though, as Atletico may be wary of a striker yet to score this season. Losing Nwaneri or Madueke would also thin Arteta’s squad depth. A cash-heavy offer looks the more realistic route, but paying close to £100m in January would be a bold gamble for any club.
