Chelsea Defender Josh Acheampong Wanted by Liverpool and Arsenal, Says TEAMtalk
Liverpool and Arsenal both explored a move for Chelsea centre-back Josh Acheampong during the summer, according to TEAMtalk. The 20-year-old has attracted plenty of attention across Europe, but the Blues are reluctant to sell.

Liverpool Eye Defensive Reinforcements
Liverpool have reshuffled their backline after Ibrahima Konate left on a free transfer. Jeremy Jacquet arrived, while Ronald Araujo joined on loan from Barcelona. Giovanni Leoni has been out for 13 months with a serious knee injury, Joe Gomez has had recurring fitness concerns, and Virgil van Dijk is approaching the end of his contract. With that in mind, the Reds reportedly made contact to understand what a deal would involve.
Arsenal and Other Clubs Also Made Enquiries
Arsenal, Newcastle United and Bournemouth are said to have checked on Acheampong’s availability. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli have also held discussions in recent times. Crystal Palace even considered him as a replacement for Maxence Lacroix, who moved to Chelsea this summer.
Chelsea Plan Long-Term Contract
Chelsea have no plans to sell and want to extend his deal, which currently runs until 2029, all the way to 2032. Standing at 6ft 3in, the right-footed defender can also operate at right-back. He is described as quick, strong in the air and composed playing out from the back.
Arsenal’s Defensive Depth
Following William Saliba’s injury, Arsenal signed Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa. Mikel Arteta now has Konsa, Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber and Ben White available on the right side. With Saliba expected back later this season, there is little urgency for another defender.
Opinion: A Smart Target for Both Clubs
Acheampong’s blend of physicality and technical ability makes him a smart long-term target for Liverpool in particular, given their uncertainty at the back. Arsenal are well stocked, but a player with his potential would have been a shrewd addition. Chelsea’s firm stance suggests any future approach will be difficult.
