Igor Matanovic Transfer: Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea Chase £50m Freiburg Striker
Three Premier League heavyweights are reportedly vying for Freiburg forward Igor Matanovic, with CaughtOffside claiming Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are all monitoring the Austria international ahead of a possible move.

Why Matanovic Is Attracting Premier League Interest
The 23-year-old has been in superb form, contributing eight goals and assists in just seven appearances this season, on top of double-figure goal tallies in each of the last two campaigns. Born in Germany but capped by Austria, the 6ft 4in striker came through the ranks at St Pauli, where he racked up 26 goal contributions in 27 Under-17 games, before a 2021 move to Eintracht Frankfurt failed to work out. He has since rediscovered his best form at Freiburg, registering 27 goal contributions.
How Each Club Could Use Him
Arsenal missed out on a new centre-forward last summer, and the report suggests Matanovic would be a like-for-like alternative to Kai Havertz. United, meanwhile, are keen to bolster their attack given Benjamin Sesko’s recent fitness problems. Chelsea are said to be keeping tabs on young talents as a matter of routine, though Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck currently lead their options.
Freiburg Price Tag and Transfer Outlook
Freiburg are reportedly willing to let him leave, but his valuation has climbed from £30m to £50m. That is a significant outlay, though his physical presence, aerial strength, box movement and link-up play look well suited to the intensity of the Premier League. The race could well be settled by the 2027 transfer window.
Our Opinion on the Matanovic Race
Fifty million pounds is steep for a player with a relatively short top-flight record, so whoever wins this race will be taking a calculated gamble. Arsenal’s need feels the most pressing on paper, while United may be tempted by the Austrian connection with Sesko. Chelsea look the least likely to push hard, given their existing depth. If his current scoring run continues, expect that fee to keep rising.
