Man Utd Explore January Loan Move for Barcelona Left-Back Alejandro Balde
Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Barcelona over a January loan for left-back Alejandro Balde, according to TEAMtalk. The Spain defender, valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt, is struggling for minutes at Camp Nou and could be available mid-season.

Why Man Utd Need Left-Back Reinforcements
Luke Shaw remains United’s senior option on the left, yet injuries have repeatedly interrupted his time at Old Trafford and his contract is entering its final months. Patrick Dorgu is the other specialist, but he has largely played as a winger under Michael Carrick and has now suffered a hamstring problem on Denmark duty. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can fill in, although both are naturally right-backs.
Barcelona Open to Letting Balde Leave
Balde is finding it difficult to break into Hansi Flick’s starting line-up, and Barcelona are reportedly relaxed about a January exit. United favour an initial loan, but they face competition: Liverpool, Sunderland, Everton and Fulham have also been offered the defender through intermediaries. With his contract running for two more years, the Catalans remain well placed to demand a sizeable fee for any permanent deal.
Alejandro Balde’s Strengths and Weaknesses
Balde is an attack-minded full-back who can also operate as a left wing-back. He is quick, technically assured and adept at dribbling out of tight areas, regularly creating chances for forwards. However, fitness problems have disrupted his progress in recent seasons.
Our Take on the Balde Interest
United previously showed interest in Nathaniel Brown and Lewis Hall, but Brown signed for Bayern Munich this summer and Hall committed his future to Newcastle United with a fresh long-term contract. Against that backdrop, Balde looks a logical alternative. In our opinion, a loan is the sensible route given his injury history, and his youth means there is plenty of scope for improvement. His pace and forward-thinking style could also suit United’s wing-back demands.
