Is Christopher Nkunku the right signing for Tottenham Hotspur?

Tottenham Hotspur are pushing for late attacking reinforcements before the transfer window shuts, and Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku has emerged as a surprise target.

According to Caught Offside, Spurs are monitoring Nkunku’s situation closely, with the Frenchman currently frozen out of Enzo Maresca’s plans at Stamford Bridge. The 27-year-old is training away from the first-team squad as Chelsea look to resolve his future, placing a £35 million price tag on his head.

Bayern Munich have also shown interest in the former RB Leipzig star, but no deal has been finalised. Chelsea, keen to offload him quickly, remain open to negotiations.

Nkunku’s Chelsea struggles

Despite being a valuable figure under Maresca last season, where he contributed 15 goals and five assists across all competitions, Nkunku has found himself sidelined following Chelsea’s summer recruitment spree. With fresh attacking options brought in, his opportunities have dwindled, sparking speculation of an exit.

Is Nkunku the right fit for Spurs?

For Tottenham, Nkunku represents a proven talent at a reasonable fee, but the question is whether he fits the profile Ange Postecoglou’s side truly need. The Frenchman thrives centrally as a second striker or No.10, rather than as a wide option.

Spurs, however, appear short on natural left-wingers. With Son Heung-min lacking a like-for-like backup and Richarlison struggling for consistency, a winger such as Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman — who has also been linked — might be a more suitable addition.

Tottenham risk heading into the new season without enough depth in wide areas, particularly if injuries or dips in form strike. Nkunku’s availability is tempting, but whether Spurs opt for him or pivot to a more natural wide attacker could define the balance of their forward line this season.
