Liverpool ready to smash transfer record with Alexander Isak bid

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a sensational move to sign Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, with a record-breaking £138m offer on the table, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Liverpool’s big summer spend

The Reds have already spent close to £300m this summer, bringing in Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, and Giovanni Leoni. The headline signing so far has been Wirtz, who arrived for around £116m, eclipsing the previous record set by Darwin Núñez.

But with both Luis Díaz and Núñez sold, Arne Slot’s side remain short in attacking options, with Ekitike the only forward addition. That lack of depth has pushed Liverpool to target Isak as the marquee striker signing.

Isak pushing for Newcastle exit

The Swedish international is believed to be eager to leave St James’ Park in search of a bigger stage. Reports suggest he has made it clear he has no intention of continuing with Newcastle, even refusing to play as he looks to force a move.

However, Newcastle are reluctant sellers. With three years still left on his contract, the Magpies are holding out for more than Liverpool’s proposed £138m fee.

Newcastle’s striker dilemma

Eddie Howe’s side have been active in the market for a new No.9. They chased Hugo Ekitike before Liverpool hijacked the deal, and also explored a move for Benjamin Sesko, who instead joined Manchester United.

More recently, Yoane Wissa of Brentford has emerged as a target, but the Bees have no plans to part ways with him despite the player’s push for a transfer. Newcastle’s need for a striker was exposed on opening day, where they created chances but failed to score in their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Isak’s importance to Newcastle is clear, but Liverpool’s financial muscle and the player’s desire for a move could test the Magpies’ resolve.
