Man Utd Eye £50m Fulham Midfielder Josh King as Long-Term Creative Option

Old Trafford Interest in Fulham Teenager

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Fulham midfielder Josh King, according to Football Insider. The 19-year-old graduated through the Cottagers’ academy and made his senior debut a couple of years ago. After a rotational role in recent seasons, he has started all six Premier League games this term.

Fulham Reluctant but Open to Big Offer

King’s contract runs until 2029, so Fulham are under no pressure to sell. However, the report suggests the west London club could be tempted by an offer exceeding £50m.

A right-footed creative midfielder, King is quick, carries the ball well and creates chances for the forwards, while also working hard off the ball. He has contributed to three goals across all competitions.

Why United Could Need a No.10

Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount are the club’s main attacking midfielders, with Shea Lacey offering cover. Mount has struggled with fitness since arriving from Chelsea, while Fernandes turns 33 next year and is entering the closing months of his contract. Lacey, meanwhile, still needs time to develop.

Our Opinion

King looks a smart long-term target given his age and potential, though £50m is a significant sum for a player with limited top-flight starts. It remains to be seen whether United make a formal approach next year, but the logic of planning for life after Fernandes is easy to understand.

United face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League tonight following a 1-1 draw with Tottenham.
