Newcastle step up interest in Valentino Livramento

Newcastle United are reportedly ramping up their efforts to tie down Valentino Livramento to a new long-term deal as Manchester City circle for the highly-rated right-back.

According to Football Insider, Pep Guardiola’s side remain keen on the 22-year-old, who has emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout full-backs since making the switch from Southampton in 2023. City were interested in him during the summer but failed to strike a deal. Now, with right-back options thin following Kyle Walker’s departure to Burnley, the Citizens are expected to make another push next year.

Livramento’s rise at St. James’ Park

Since arriving on Tyneside, Livramento has developed into a key figure under Eddie Howe. Not only has he managed to displace Kieran Trippier, but he has also become a reliable presence in both defence and attack. In just under two seasons, he has racked up nearly 100 appearances, adding one goal and three assists to his name.

His consistency and maturity at such a young age have naturally attracted top clubs, but Newcastle are determined not to lose their prized asset.

Man City’s right-back dilemma

Manchester City’s interest makes perfect sense. Rico Lewis is currently the only recognised right-back in Guardiola’s squad, and while the youngster is highly rated, the Premier League champions are eager to add more competition in that position. Deploying midfielders like Matheus Nunes out wide is far from ideal, which is why Livramento’s profile fits the bill perfectly.

The Magpies, however, are not prepared to back down. Sources suggest Newcastle are willing to “do everything” to secure an extension for Livramento and ensure he remains a central part of their long-term project. Eddie Howe views him as a cornerstone of the team’s future, and discussions over a fresh deal are expected to accelerate in the coming weeks.
