Tottenham plot move for Morten Hjulmand?

Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand, according to Italian outlet Tuttojuve.

Since his arrival from US Lecce in August 2023, the Danish international has quietly established himself as one of Europe’s most underrated midfielders. At Sporting, Hjulmand flourished under former manager Rúben Amorim, who not only trusted him with the captain’s armband but also built a system that maximised his qualities.

The 26-year-old has already clocked up over 100 appearances for the Portuguese giants, chipping in with eight goals and six assists. His consistent rise has naturally attracted attention from Europe’s elite, and Spurs are the latest club to show strong interest.

Why Tottenham Want Hjulmand

With Yves Bissouma’s future uncertain and doubts lingering over whether Spurs will secure João Palhinha permanently after his Bayern Munich loan, Tottenham are considering Hjulmand as a long-term midfield solution. Reports claim the North London side have made enquiries in “recent days” regarding his availability.

However, competition will be fierce. Italian giants Juventus are also monitoring Hjulmand closely, with new boss Igor Tudor keen to strengthen his midfield options.

Sporting’s Price Tag

Sporting hold Hjulmand in high regard and are under no pressure to sell, given his contract runs until 2028. Any deal would likely require a fee in the region of £52 million, making him a costly but potentially transformative signing for Spurs.

Tottenham have already invested heavily this summer—bringing in Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, João Palhinha, Kevin Danso, Mathys Tel, and Randal Kolo Muani—but Hjulmand could be the missing piece to Thomas Frank’s midfield puzzle.

Alongside Palhinha and Pape Matar Sarr, Hjulmand could help form a formidable midfield trio capable of dominating Premier League battles and providing the defensive shield Spurs have long sought.
