Liverpool and Tottenham Interested in Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma, Says Report
Reds and Spurs Eye Cut-Price January Deal
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly tracking Brighton and Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma, according to TEAMtalk. The Japan international is valued at around £19m by Transfermarkt and could be available at a reduced fee.

Contract Standoff at the AMEX
Mitoma, 29, arrived at the AMEX Stadium from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021 and spent time on loan at Union Saint-Gilloise before establishing himself in England. His finest return came in 2024/25, when he contributed 15 goals and assists across all competitions.
Fitness problems have since disrupted his progress. His contract expires at the end of this season, and talks over an extension are said to have stalled. Brighton may therefore consider a discounted sale in January rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer.
Why Tottenham Could Have the Edge
TEAMtalk claim Liverpool have admired Mitoma for a long time and have kept a close watch on his situation. Tottenham, however, have a notable advantage in Roberto De Zerbi, who worked with the winger at Brighton and knows his strengths well.
Crowded Race for Mitoma
Neither club will have a clear run. Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked with the forward.
Liverpool strengthened their wide options this summer by signing Bradley Barcola and Victor Muñoz following Mohamed Salah’s exit, so a left-sided arrival may only happen if someone departs. Spurs brought in Mykhailo Mudryk on loan, but his own fitness struggles leave a question mark over that position.
Would Mitoma Suit Liverpool or Tottenham?
Mitoma’s Premier League experience and age make him a sensible short-term option for either side. A player in his prime, available cheaply, is rarely something clubs overlook. Spurs look the more natural fit given their need and De Zerbi’s familiarity, while Liverpool appear to have less pressing requirements. With so many suitors, Brighton may find themselves in a strong negotiating position despite his expiring deal.
