Szoboszlai Hails Liverpool Defender Jeremy Jacquet After Brentford Win
Midfielder’s Instagram Praise for Jacquet
Dominik Szoboszlai has singled out Jeremy Jacquet for praise after Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback victory at Brentford in the Premier League. The Hungary international described his team-mate’s display simply as “Best”, a message that reflects how highly the dressing room rates the young centre-back.
Jacquet’s Brentford Numbers
Liverpool trailed at the break after Keane Lewis-Potter struck in the 44th minute, having failed to register a shot on target in the first half. Brentford then lost Yehor Yarmolyuk to a red card for headbutting Jacquet at a corner, a decisive moment in the contest.
Alexander Isak and Victor Munoz scored after the interval to turn the match around, while Vitaly Janelt’s stoppage-time dismissal left the hosts with nine men.
Jacquet’s contribution at the back was significant. He won 10 duels, made four clearances and four interceptions, and added two recoveries and two tackles. He also completed 39 passes from 72 touches. Afterwards he posted on Instagram: “Fight and win. See you Tuesday at Anfield.”
Why Jacquet Looks Undroppable
Since arriving from Rennes in a £60million deal, the Frenchman has adapted quickly to Premier League intensity alongside Virgil van Dijk. His positioning and defensive work have earned a full France debut under Zinedine Zidane.
In my opinion, the 21-year-old has made the right-sided centre-back role his own. His form has even pushed summer signing Ronald Araujo into a right-back berth, where he has also performed well. That is a healthy problem for Arne Slot to have.
