Chelsea Target Como Midfielder Lucas Da Cunha in £25m Transfer Move
Chelsea have reportedly joined the race for Como midfielder Lucas Da Cunha, according to TEAMtalk. The Blues are said to be exploring ways to strengthen their midfield in 2027.

Who Is Lucas Da Cunha?
The 25-year-old, valued at around £25m by Transfermarkt, joined Como from Nice in 2023 and helped the club earn promotion to Serie A the following year. He has since made 77 appearances under Cesc Fabregas, remaining a fixture despite a sweeping squad rebuild. Last season he missed just two of 38 league games, filling several midfield roles as Como booked a historic Champions League place. This term he has played in every match, captaining the side during their 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig.
Chelsea Face Premier League Competition
Interest in Da Cunha is not new. TEAMtalk claims Premier League clubs, Chelsea among them, previously made contact before he agreed a fresh contract in Italy. The Blues are still monitoring his progress, but Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth are also reportedly keeping close tabs.
Why Chelsea Need Midfield Reinforcements
Xabi Alonso’s side have made a patchy start, winning two, drawing one and losing two of their opening five fixtures. They are winless in three since, including a 2-0 defeat at Brentford before the international break. Midfield has been a particular worry. Reece James, Malo Gusto, Romeo Lavia, Jordan Henderson and Valentin Barco have all been tried there, yet Chelsea have looked exposed in transition.
What Da Cunha Could Offer Chelsea
Da Cunha averages 7.12 recoveries per game and boasts 94% pass accuracy this season. Former Lausanne-Sport team-mate Stjepan Kukuruzovic has called him exceptional. Those numbers suggest a ready-made ball-winner who could shield the back four.
In our view, his captaincy experience could prove just as valuable to a young squad lacking authority. A new Como contract and Champions League football, however, could make prising him away costly.
